Christian Clubs
Consider starting a Christian Club or other Student-led group at your school. Christian Clubs can be recognized formally on campuses where “non-curricular” clubs are allowed (i.e., the school has a “limited open forum” policy). Wherever there is a “closed forum” policy, they can only meet unofficially. Links to campus club resources can be found at EverySchool.com.
Prayer Strategies
Initiate prayer strategies appropriate to the response and interest in your area. An excellent resource to help students and adult leaders develop prayer strategies is An Awesome Way to Pray, by Barry St. Clair from Reach-Out Youth Solutions—800.473.9456.
Make a personal commitment with other students and/or youth workers to pray regularly.
Encourage other prayer groups who pray for youth in your area, such as parents’ prayer groups (i.e., Moms in Touch—800.949.MOMS (6667); Promise Keepers—303.964.7600).
Host prayer breakfasts for student leaders.
Develop strategies to pray for every student at a local school. (One way is to cut out yearbook pictures, paste six students’ pictures with their first names on prayer cards, and distribute to committed adults who will pray daily for those six by name.)
Cooperate with other ministries in your area to sponsor concerts of prayer with a youth-oriented agenda and worship. Proclaim Hope! offers free downloads of their concert of prayer manual, Together in Hope: How to Conduct a Concert of Prayer Rally in Your City or Church.
Participate in the National Day of Prayer's Student Activities (719.531.3379) each Spring.
Network
Start an ongoing Network of youth workers. Meet to pray and support one another and your students, and plan cooperative events for your area. Visit National Network of Youth Ministries (858.451.1111) for materials and information on how to join and find other interested youth workers in your area.
